The Stationary Ark: A Warm, Wise, and Funny Account of His Struggles to Create the Perfect Zoo
Published in Paperback by Simon & Schuster (Paper) (March, 1984)
Average review score:

Loads of LaughterI particularly like Gerald Durrell's books because of his humor. I lent it to my sick friend and she laughed so hard she got better. My mom has to yank it away from me before I listen when she wants something done. I am sure you will buy up the whole series when you read one of his books. Be patient at first and then it gets better.

This Is New Jersey
Published in Paperback by Rutgers University Press (November, 1994)
Average review score:

Jersey, We Hardly Know Ya! Eye Opening 4th EditionA staggering amount of diversity is on display in a whirlwind tour of New Jersey's 21 counties, divided up here into 3 geographical areas: the mountain region, cental hill and valley, and coastal plain (South Jersey). The 1994 4th edition of "This is New Jersey" crushes the one-sided "Which Exit?" mentality about New Jersey with a rich heritage from Revolutionary to Civil War eras as well as Native American. There are plenty of black and white photos and a short color section in the middle. It may not be worthy of the nickname 'Garden State' for the most part these days, but it deserves alot better than its Jersey Turnpike reputation. This book gives a lot of reasons why.

This Royal Breed
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (January, 1992)
Average review score:

it has stuck in my mindI read this book a while ago and it is one that has left a lasting impression on me. The story line has already been told by the others reviewers and it is a compelling story. What has lasted with me is the fact that it took place during World War II on an English island, Jersey, under Nazi occupation. Homes were taken over and food became scarce for both the Germans and the people living on Jersey. It was a revealing read on the survival of war-time occupation. It also had mystery, romance and drama. I highly recommend this book.

The Trial of Lt. Colonel Abraham Hunt September 22, 1777, Trenton, New Jersey
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (20 February, 2001)
Average review score:

Riveting!! This is a movie waiting to happen!Michael Davis displays a rare talent in his first novel. Abraham Hunt is a real life character taken right out of that time in American history when the battle of Trenton played a decisive role in America's fight for freedom. Lt. Colonel Abraham Hunt was there in Trenton having a Christmas eve party with the enemy officers while Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware in the sleet and cold of that fateful night.
Michael Davis takes that incident and puts Abraham Hunt on trial...and what a trial it is! Was this man guilty of treason to the American cause?
A truly riveting book. I highly recommend it.

A Way of Desert Spirituality: The Plan of Life of the Hermits of Bethlehem, Chester, New Jersey
Published in Paperback by Alba House (November, 1998)
Average review score:

A simple to understand book on the eremetical life.I myself have read a few books on christian monasticism, including many by Thomas Merton. This book I found to be thoroughly enjoyable. It is basicaly the Plan of Life for these Hermits. It is a christian book. It speaks alot about the influence of the Desert Fathers on their plan of life. This is a book of Desert Spirituality. It discusses some basic and simple elements to the eremetical life. I dont think anyone grounded in the christian faith will have much trouble understanding the ideas in this book. And for those fans of the Desert Fathers this book is a must read. It was a peaceful and prayerful book.

Wise Guys: More Stories of Mobsters from Jersey to Vegas (Adrenaline Series)
Published in Paperback by Thunder's Mouth Press (May, 2003)
Average review score:

Every bit as good as "Mob"! Great summer reading. There are fifteen selections in this book, the only fiction piece being the scene from Godfather II in which Vito Corleone rises to power. There are a couple selections from more scholarly works on the rise and workings of organized crime in Italy and America, a couple of "I was there" memoirs and some great reporting on recent figures like John Gotti. But also some very interesting work on a town in Ohio where the town fathers are hand in glove with OC, an interesting piece on NYC Chinatown tongs and on the Bulger brothers of Massachusetts - one a state senate leader, the other a mobster - particularly relevant now (July 2003) because they are back in the news with the wanted mobster gone missing. Every selection is interesting and closed-ended enough that you can enjoy it. Six are stand-alone articles. If you enjoyed "Mob" you'll enjoy this, and vice versa. Great light summertime reading.
